Dear Föhrenwalders worldwide, We have been in regular contact with some of you since October 7, especially those we wanted to visit in Israel in October. Today we would like to address you all once again:
Everyone involved in the BADEHAUS place of remembrance is horrified by the events in Israel and the Middle East. We are shocked and very sad, we cannot believe the cruelty and contempt for humanity shown by Hamas on October 7th. At the same time, our thoughts are with you who are in Israel or who have relatives and friends in Israel and have to experience this catastrophe in a different way. Your children and grandchildren have been called up. We have just received the news that family members of Föhrenwalder are also among the victims. What madness! Please be assured of our heartfelt sympathy.
We are also very concerned about the hatred and threats that are spreading on German streets. It is inconceivable to us that anti-Semitism has so many supporters here again and we sincerely hope that you are and remain spared from this hostility.
It is also thanks to your help that we can keep the memory of our and future generations alive and try to counter the growing anti-Semitism. Fortunately, many school classes also come to us, who are interested in the topic and become thoughtful. That gives us hope. And yet, of course, we are thinking about how we too can intensify and broaden our educational work to combat hatred, anti-Semitism and racism.
We very much hope that you are all healthy and have the strength to endure what has happened.
Please let us know how you are doing and visit us in your Föhrenwald.
Shalom!
For the whole BADEHAUS team in Föhrenwald-Waldram Dr. Sybille Krafft (Chair) and Jonathan Coenen (Vice-Chair)
